Went bowling today. I tried to consistently use a spin and it actually worked well. I got 131, 92, and 142. Not bad for using a new technique. I think I’m gonna get some kind of online tabulation thing going to keep track of my progress for bowling and other activites. (DDR comes to mind <grin>).
Nerd Fact: I also looked up some information about bowling alleys: Apparently, the first 12 feet or so of the lane is maple which is then followed by pine and then the area under the pins is made of maple.
Observation: This explains why the lanes don’t dent that easily. (I think it’s also cause the lanes are actually horizontal sandwiches of wood — approximately 40 sheets of 2¾” thick maple.)
It was also Corinna’s birthday celebration last night. (I believe her actual b-day was -two days ago- today.) Happy celebratin’ to you.

Heard this by Avalon on Digitally Imported. I was very suprised. Very good mixing by DJ TiĆ«sto. Apparently they have a remix of their Oxygen Album. I think I’m gonna get me some Christian musik.

I told Wayne today in the stairwell, “It’s hard to be good at really good at anything.” He responded by saying something like “Yeah, that’s why the ones that are get payed so much.” (Please correct me if I’m wrong.) I’ve been playing guitar for almost 9 months now and I still kinda suck. I’ve been trying “Double” mode on DDR and I can only get B’s on Light mode and barely D’s on Standard. It is really hard to excel.
But I tell myself that I won’t know how good I can get unless I keep trying. My philosophy is that everyone has an unlimited potential and it stops only when they stop trying. I guess the hard part then is to keep on going everyday. Best of luck to all of us.
And here’s the quote of the day: “If you go to work and your name is on the door, you’re rich. If your name is on your desk, you’re middle class. If your name is on your shirt, you’re poor.”
I also bought a cap and gown today for commencement. It cost me $26.52.

So my new obsession right now is DDR. Most of you probably know about it. Anyways, I found a great site that has a database of all the DDR arcades in the U.S. I’ve put a permanent link to it on my site (under Links).

Yesterday was quite eventful.
Started with the Ahn Trio concert at 11am.
The cellist was pretty good. I thought the pianist would get whiplash from being so charismatic with her wild head swings and pumps.
Then played softball for 3 hours at 2:30pm.
[note: I can’t throw, catch, or hit a baseball very well. I have a new appreciation for professional players.]
Then I went to Relay For Life. (A fundraising event for the American Cancer Society where you there are teams of people that walk around a track for 12 hours.) It is to simulate the effects of cancer on a patient’s mind:
- sadness of diagnosis
- weariness of treatment
- more weariness but hope when treatment is through
- renewed vitality at the break of dawn
[edit: that’s kinda confusing]
We were assigned shifts, but most people tried to walk on the track when they could. There were lots of other events going on at the same time. Here were some of my favorite highlights: 4 a cappella groups — I really liked Greenleafs and Mosaic Whispers, a DDR stand — the standard mode Paranoia on double pads is a really fun song (Thanks for the heads-up Pam!), and free drinks and banana’s at the concession stands for those participating. Wayne decided to run for a portion of the time even though he was just there to support our team. So he, his better/worse/smaller/bigger? half, Grace, and I ran around the track. And we ran. Well, actually, Wayne and Wayne started running. Then 4 laps later Grace started running. Then another 2 or 3 laps later, I started. Then something like another 12 or 13 laps went by and finally we stopped. But big Wayne continued. For like another 5 or six laps. I think he ran 6 miles or more. But then Nancy started running and she ran like 40 laps. And this all happend at 1 - 3am. What a bunch of wierdos. :-p
My foot really hurt(ed) after running. We walked a couple of cool down laps but eventually I started limping cause the heel and arch of my right foot was hurting. I went to the PT station and the lady there showed me a couple of stretches.
Suxs though cause I’m still limping right now. At least it doesn’t hurt when I’m sitting. I think I’ll go in to see a doctor tomorrow. Anyways I left the field at 3:30am cause everyone told me I should just cut my losses. What nice people. So I think most of ‘em stayed til the closing ceremonies at 6am. Musta been tiring.

So I’ve been reading about the announcement of the new Intel Centrino processor. I really want one. Err, I should say I really want it in this.
Here’s a review at Anandtech. And a technology preview. But the jist is:
Based on the Timna project in Israel.
Like the Pentium III but even higher IPC and still having more pipeline stages.
Huge power savings - up to 6½ hours in the T40p.
New power efficient chipset.
And some random cool stuff:
1MB L2 cache.
Dissipates just 24Watts at full power (1.6 and 1.5 Ghz)
I guess that’s not a lot. It’s just really cool how IBM designed the T40 around it.
